How to remove an image background without uploading it
PicZero's cutout runs in the browser. It separates the subject, lets you fix the edge, and exports a transparent PNG or WebP. The photo is not uploaded.

Background removal here is a foreground mask computed on your machine, then an export from that mask. The tool is https://msh.zone/image/cutout. It does not submit the photo to a cutout API.
The model download is not the photo
The first time you select a preset, the browser downloads that model's weights and keeps them in its cache. Later cutouts in the same browser use the cache. They do not send the photo to a server. Clearing site data, switching browsers, or picking a preset whose weights are not cached yet downloads the weights again. The progress indicator is the model file, not your picture.
That is the only network behavior to know before you cut out: one model download, no photo upload. Compress and convert do not even download a model. See compress without uploading.
Presets and the edge
The three presets trade speed against edge detail:
- Fast is for a product or a simple portrait on a plain background. A clean edge does not need the heavier model.
- Balanced is the start when you have no special reason to pick another.
- Quality is for hair, fur, lace, glass, and translucent edges. It is slower, and those pictures are why it exists.
Fix the mask after it appears. The keep brush restores subject that was cut off. The erase brush clears background that remained. Feathering softens a hard edge. A slight contract removes a fringe of the old background color. Then decide whether the background stays transparent, becomes a flat color, or sits on another image.
Export and batches
Use PNG or WebP for a transparent result. JPG turns transparency into an opaque fill. If the next step must be JPG, export the transparent file here and then convert it onto the background color you choose, so the fill is yours rather than a leftover fringe.
The list can hold many photos. Preset, feather, and contract can be shared. Brush strokes stay on the image you are looking at. For a batch, lock the preset on one representative photo, check the edge, then run the rest, and repair by hand only where it is needed. The general pattern for a folder is in a folder of photos.
What it will not do
An automatic mask misses on busy backgrounds, fine hair, and translucent objects. The brushes are how you correct that, not an optional extra. Cutout also does not increase resolution or retouch a portrait. It answers one question: how to separate the subject from the background, on this device.
How to do it
- Open PicZero cutout at https://msh.zone/image/cutout.
- Add the photo. The first time you pick a preset, the browser downloads that model's weights and stores them in its cache.
- Choose fast, balanced, or quality, then wait for the mask. A product on a plain background can use fast. Hair, fur, and translucent edges need the finer preset.
- Paint back subject that was cut off with the keep brush, and clear leftover background with the erase brush. Feather softens the edge. A slight contract removes a fringe of the old background color.
- Leave the background transparent, fill it with a color, or place another image behind the subject.
- Export PNG or WebP. Do not save a transparent result as JPG.
Questions
Is the photo sent away to be cut out?
No. The model runs in the browser. The only thing that leaves the device is the one-time download of model weights, not the photo. MSH has no account, and the page does not post the image.
Which preset should I use?
Fast fits a product or a simple portrait on a plain background. Balanced is the everyday start. Hair, fur, glass, and translucent edges need the quality preset, a little feathering, and sometimes the brushes.
Does the model download every time?
No. After the weights are in the browser cache, the same browser can run again, including offline while the cache remains. Clearing site data or switching browsers downloads them again. A different preset can be a different set of weights, so it may download once more.
What format keeps the transparent background?
PNG or WebP. JPG has no alpha channel, so the export becomes opaque. To change format afterward, see the local convert guide.
Do brush edits apply to every image?
No. Edge settings can apply to the list. Strokes you paint stay on the current image. Set the preset and feather on one representative photo before you run a batch.
What if the automatic mask is wrong?
The keep brush restores subject that was removed. The erase brush clears background that remained. Contract removes a fringe of the old color, and feather avoids a hard stair-step. Do not export a complex hair edge from the automatic mask alone.
